During her four week residency, Erika Winstone will be making new work specific to the nature of the space. She will be drawing with metal into the white painted brick walls, exposing layers of colour from previous exhibitions. In addition video will be shot and presented in situ. In this way Erika Winstone will be extending her interest in overlapping time and combining a personal history with one that is unknown.
The installation will be constantly changing with site-specific work gradually replacing imported work and through a shifting balance between the individual components.
Erika Winstones work explores relationships between video and drawing. Her subject is the relationship of individuals at play. The form of her drawing is restrained and large scale, counterpointing the intimate engagements depicted in the video. Her installations combine new media (video and sound) with traditional graphic materials such as silverpoint and goldpoint - drawn onto canvas, panels or directly onto gallery walls. The overall effect is one of lightness and an abstract activation of the space, combined with representation and circular narratives.
